Quickie Too

So lately I find myself in Tacoma a good bit. There's only one place I've had a chance to try but I love it. Been there twice but only took photos the first time. Quickies Too is the place. It's run by a bunch of Rasta's which I think is pretty rad. It's also covered wall to wall with Rasta posters. The Hillside Quickie has a menu online, but the Quickie Too seems to have a few different things. I had a fish burger. For someone that grew up eating tons of seafood, it was nostalgic. I was hoping they would have the menu online, but alas, it's been to long, and I can't remember what was on the dang sangwitch. BUT IT WAS DELICIOUS! Anywho. It came with a side of black beans, and I also had the squash soup.
The next time I was in Tacoma, I tried to find The Den, but it was gone. I got frustrated and went back to Quickies. They look like they need support anyway. Or maybe its just my timing cause it was always empty. Second time around I had a chili burger and it was fantastic. It was made with Pastrami shipped in from New Jersey.
So Next time your in Tacoma Go support or Vegan Rasta's At Quickie Too.

Ken done gone Vegan

So since going vegan, I have been on a mission to try all the vegan restaurants around here. Since I'm laid out from my back, I have time to blog em. I have been to a few now, but only took photos at a couple. I will not be the guy posting food pics on Facebook. I don't hate that, but I know some people do. I wont blog about a spot until I take some photos. And I'm sure I will go back to them because I haven't disliked one yet.

But here is a list of a few I hit so far. I have to cool it cause its breaking my bank.

My first hike in Washington

This is Dash Point State Park. Practically in my backyard. This was my first hike since Florida. Flowers were just starting to boom. Beautiful place. It was tough to do without my two favorite hiking buddies.

Vegfest Seattle 2012

Vegfest Seattle was phenomenal.Over 200 vendors passing out samples. I was so full from trying it all. I did catch a speaker. Dr. Neal Barnard. Very informative and motivational. He talked about the benefits of a veg and vegan lifestyle. I wish I could have recorded it so that I could just play parts of it back when people ask about how we eat and our health.

Vegan Blogger Pot Luck

So I haphazardly joined a Vegan Blogger Group on Meet up in my attempt to meet some Seattle vegers. Last night, 2/18/12, I attended my first event with the group; a Vegan Potluck hosted by Anika Lehde. Although I never blog, I somewhat feel it obligatory to blog about my evening. I'll keep it brief.
The hors devours; delicious, the environment( Anikas' condo); art collectors milieu, the company; very friendly and warm. the evening; inspiring.
Everything prepared for the evening was absolutely mouthwatering. I've never really liked kale, but I had to have a few of the kale chips, yummy. Mexican Bean dip is always a favorite of mine. I've never had veggie dogs in a blanket before and those were great. The sliders? I couldn't keep my hands out of. A sloppy joe adaptation with a slaw topping. I started using chips when I couldn't fit in anymore bread. I don't remember the spices that were on the pecans but they kept reaching for more. I forget what was in the cupcakes, cream cheese I think, so tasty. The brownies were so moist which is fantastic for not using oil. I hope I'm not forgetting any ones dish. I should have took a picture and I'm not on coffee yet. If I did, I apologize. There was nothing on the table I did not love. My contribution; Whole Foods blah blah in a container blah I will make something next time. I honestly had a plan but work went long and traffic...
Anikas home was fun to explore. She get karma points for supporting the art community by collecting. "Dog with Cupcake" spot on expressionism. It was a treat find that an artist that I've seen in magazines was hanging on her wall, and is a Seattle resident.I don't remember his name but his forest renditions are right up my alley. And props to Tim for figuring out the pig puzzle.
The company was delightful. A warm and pleasant group of people sharing a common axiom. It's nice to be able to speak comfortably of our lifestyles and not feel judged. Thank you all for being welcoming.
The entire event, for me, was just the encouragement I was looking for in my all encompassing world of meat eaters. I would like to thank everyone for motivating me to make the right decisions the next time temptation is tapping on my tummy.
